Prostate Health
One of the most important part of men’s health is the health of the prostate. Every man will experience issues associated with his prostate at some point in his life. It is imperative that men have information and an understanding of how to care for their prostate.
The prostate is a small gland that is part of the male reproductive system. It is supposed to be about the shape and size of a walnut .It rests below your bladder and in front of your rectum. It surrounds part of the urethra, the tube in your penis that carries urine from your bladder.
The prostate helps make some of the semen, which carries sperm fluid from your testicles when you ejaculate.
If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms it possible your prostate needs to be examined:
Frequent or urge to urinate.
Need to get up many times during the night to urinate.
Blood in urine or semen.
Pain or burning in urination.
Painful ejaculation.
Frequent pain or stiffness in lower back, hips, pelvic or rectal area, or upper thighs.
Dribbling of urine.
Prostate tumors can be benign or cancerous. With benign tumors, the prostate gets bigger and squeezes the urethra, interrupting the normal flow of urine. This condition, called benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH), is common and not usually life threatening. Prostate cancer, one of the most common kind of cancer in men, can spread beyond the prostate gland and be life threatening.
Most cancerous tumors in the prostate grow slowly and either do not spread or do not cause harm for decades. When caught early, prostate cancer can be treated successfully in more than 90% of cases. Men 50 years old and older should talk to their doctors about screening for prostate cancer.
